The Thoroughbred Transformation Exposition in Ocala, Florida
This March, Run for the Ribbons (RFTR), an Ocala based non-profit dedicated to helping thoroughbreds find a secondary career after racing, will host the inaugural Florida Thoroughbred Transformation Expo. The expo is an off the track thoroughbred competition, similar to the $100,000 Thoroughbred Makeover held in Kentucky. This first year boasts some serious prize money.
Run for the Ribbons started in 2014 as a hunter/jumper horse show and they become a popular horse show series for OTTB owners in the southeast.
RFTR Founder, Laurine Fuller Vargas says, “The team is coming together very well.” Runfortheribbons.org outlines, “a minimum of $36,000 in prize money will be awarded at the event.” This puts OTTB owners in a very exciting environment for a first year event.
The prize money is broken down as follows:
$4500 per discipline (see classes below)
Champion 1st Place – $1000
Reserve Champion 2nd Place – $800
3rd Place – $650
4th Place – $550
5th Place – $450
6th Place – $350
Top Amateur in discipline – $350
Top Junior in discipline – $350
On the final day of the event, Sunday, there is a “Celebration of Thoroughbreds” an exclusive performance of a diverse group of seasoned OTTB’s. Riders and trainers are required to submit their entry information by March 5th, 2017 in one of the 8 categories.
