Eventing is the only high risk Olympic sport where men and women compete as equals, with no separate divisions. Spread over consecutive days spectators enjoy Day One of dressage, which tests the gaits, suppleness and obedience of the horse through a series of prescribed movements. Day Two, Cross-Country, is the highlight of Eventing. At competitions around the world thousands will gather to watch horses and riders gallop over four miles of challenging terrain, at speeds up to 25 miles per hour, while negotiating formidable obstacles, water hazards and ditches. Day Three brings the spectators back into the stadium to experience the thrill of show jumping. They will witness many of the world’s top horses and riders test their athletic ability, conditioning and training as they negotiate a course of demanding obstacles.
